Group meets at 10 am on the third Wednesday of the month.
We aim to increase our understanding, and thus enjoyment, of painting and other media. We learn by visits to galleries and exhibitions, by members' presentations on varied topics of their choice and themed sessions where everyone contributes. The national U3A Resource Centre can help with slides, videos etc.

This group seeks to explore and share experience in camera techniques and the software editing of images. Meetings are in Room 4 at Tettenhall Wood Institute at 2.00pm on the first Wednesday of each month.

The group meets weekly at 10.0am on Wednesdays, members prepare
conversation topics and discuss vocabulary and grammar points as they arise.

 

Members prepare simple conversation topics, backed up by reference to a text book and with the use of audio cassettes.

We visit each others gardens to exchange information and where possible to provide practical help. Visits to local gardens in the Yellow Book may also be arranged. The group is new and members are in the process of working out a programme and range of activities.

Members follow the Cambridge Latin course. We find that our deepening knowledge of the language increases our enjoyment of holidays in France and Italy - and our understanding of English grammar and vocabulary..

Members give presentations on people and places of local interest (local being stretched to include most of the West Midlands). Often such presentations lead to a special visit, particularly in the summer months.

We read a wide variety of plays, comedy and tragedy, ranging from Sheridan to John Osbourne. Occasionally the two groups combine for a particular play requiring a large cast.

Both Groups meet at 2 pm on the first Thursday of the month
A member chooses a book (20th/21st Century) to be read by all, then introduces this to the group. Books chosen are very varied and the ensuing discussion can be lively! We like to finish with an appropriate poem.

REAL FOOD

Group meets at 2 pm on the second Wednesday of the month.
We explore the provision of good 'slow' food, locally sourced from fresh ingredients, often using traditional methods. To this end we research and often visit local food producers, shops etc. We collect and present information on topics such as food additives, and Fair Trade - and occasionally we enjoy our own home-produced goodies.

SINGING FOR PLEASURE

Group meets at 10 am on the fourth Thursday of the month.
A discussion group. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, which can make our discussions lively. We decide on a subject and one or more of our members makes a presentation which is followed by open discussion. We do not aim to reach a consensus, though often we do, rather we are aiming to share our ideas and learn together.

UNDERSTANDING OPERA

Group meets monthly at 2.30 pm on Tuesdays by arrangement
We look at and study operas especially those which are due to be performed locally in the near future, with the aid of CDs and DVDs. We also consider the background of the work and composer, so that our enjoyment of the performance is enhanced.

WALKING GROUP

Group meets on varying days by arrangement so that all members have a chance to participate. Walks vary from easy rambles of 4 miles to more strenuous longer walks up to 10 miles - the average being 6 miles over undulating terrain. Pub lunch or picnic. We usually meet at the Daisy Freezer Centre, Compton to travel by car, sharing vehicles.
